Lapraoscopic (Minimally Invasive) Surgery/Robotic Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery is done without making a large incision. A thin, lighted tube — known as the laparoscope (a small camera) — is inserted into the abdomen through a small incision allowing the doctor to view your pelvic organs. The doctor is ultimately able to fix most identified problems through the small incision.

Not only is Dr. Anghel highly adept at laparoscopic surgery, he is certified in da Vinci® robotic-assisted surgery, the most advanced, least invasive gynecologic surgery method available to women today. Dr. Anghel is a proctor in robotic surgery at Memorial Healthcare System and a member of robotic surgery committee at Broward Health Hospital.

Laparoscopy Surgery is used to treat conditions such as:

  • Chronic Pelvic Pain
  • Pelvic Floor Problems
  • Endometriosis
  • Myomectomy for Uterine Fibroids
  • Ovarian Cysts
  • Ectopic Pregnancy
  • Permanent Sterilization Reversal
  • Lapraoscopic Hysterectomy
  • Enterocele Repair after Hysterectomy

Hysterectomy/Robotic Hysterectomy

A hysterectomy is an operation to remove the uterus. This procedure may be necessary for a variety of reasons, including painful uterine fibroids, a prolapsed uterus, cancer of the uterus, cervix or ovaries, endometriosis, abnormal vaginal bleeding or chronic pelvic pain. A hysterectomy is often a last-resort option, after other treatment options have not been successful. Depending on the reason for the hysterectomy, either a portion of the uterus will be removed, or it will be removed entirely.

Dr. Anghel is highly trained and skilled at performing minimally invasive hysterectomies, to enable patients a faster recovery and less pain.

Vaginal Rejuvenation with MonaLisa Touch®

MonaLisa Touch® is an FDA approved painless and minimally invasive laser treatment for vaginal rejuvenation. It is the most effective non-surgical and non-pharmacological solution for preventing and treating vaginal atrophy and its after-effects (dryness, laxity, burning, pain during sexual intercourse and mild urinary incontinence) that many women suffer from during menopause, after childbirth or post-cancer treatments.

Gentle laser energy is delivered to the vaginal wall tissue to stimulate collagen contained in the area to achieve rehydration and functional tissue restoration. The end result often leads to improved self-confidence and sexual pleasure. Additionally:

  • It’s an in-office, virtually painless procedure
  • A typical course of treatment is three procedures over 18 weeks.
  • Requires no anesthesia
  • There is no downtime
  • Each treatment is done under 5 minutes
  • In both European and U.S. clinical trials, women reported symptom relief after the first treatment and increased improvement with each subsequent treatment

Robotic Laparoscopic Myomectomy

This is a minimally invasive surgery done to remove fibroids, which are growths in a woman’s uterus that can cause severe symptoms such as heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, bloating, infertility, frequent urination and constipation. The woman’s uterus is left intact. A robotic-assisted myomectomy may have a lower risk of complications; require a shorter hospital stay and a faster recovery.

Uterosacral Suspension

Uterosacral Suspension is used to treat vaginal prolapse and ultimately restore the vagina to its normal anatomic position and alleviate symptoms such as vaginal pressure, painful intercourse, recurrent urinary tract infections, urinary incontinence and an enlarged vaginal opening. In many cases this procedure can be done using state-of-the-art, minimally invasive da Vinci® Robotic surgery. Benefits of the robotic surgery include a shorter hospital stay, less blood loss, less scarring, faster recovery, less pain and a quicker return to normal activity.

da Vinci® Robotic Surgery

The da Vinci® Robotic Surgery System is the most advanced, least invasive gynecologic surgery method available to women today. It provides surgeons with an alternative to abdominal surgery and conventional laparoscopy through the use of a state-of-the-art robotic platform even for complex and delicate procedures. It’s an option for treating gynecologic conditions that include uterine fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic pain, ovarian cysts, uterine prolapse and menorrhagia (excessive bleeding). Hysterectomies and myomectomies may also be performed with this System.

Benefits to the patient may include:

  • Significantly less pain
  • Decreased blood loss
  • Fewer surgical complications
  • Less scaring and fewer scars
  • Shorter hospital stay and a faster return to daily activities
  • In many cases, a better end result

Essure® Permanent Birth Control

Essure® is a surgery-free, permanent birth control procedure that is done in our office in under ten minutes. The insert works with your body to create a natural barrier in your fallopian tubes to prevent pregnancy. There is no burning, no downtime and no hormones. For three months following the procedure, patients must continue to use another form of birth control.

Novasure® - Endometrial Ablation

Novasure® is an effective, non-hormonal, permanent treatment for heavy periods. This minimally invasive in-office procedure is done under local anesthesia in less than 10 minutes and normal activity can resume the following day.

Novasure uses a method called endometrial ablation to remove the endometrium, the lining of the uterus. This reduces, and in some cases completely eliminates, menstrual bleeding.

Medtronic InterStim® Therapy

Used to treat overactive bladder in some cases where the patient may not be responding to other treatment methods, InterStim® Therapy uses a small device to send mild electrical pulses (electrical stimulation) to stimulate the pelvic nerves which control the muscles and organs involved with bladder (and bowel) function. A test simulation is first performed. If it proves successful, a permanent system may then be implanted into the patient.

Vaginal Rejuvenation/Labiaplasty

Vaginal rejuvenation can be used to boost self-confidence by improving the appearance of the vagina and labia, relieving discomfort often associated with an enlarged labia and tightening the muscles in the vagina that have loosed from childbirth or aging. Vaginal surgery ultimately  restores the youthful appearance and strength of the vagina and pelvic floor. Labiaplasty can remove excess skin on the labia (vaginal lips) which often causes every day discomfort (e.g., clothing rubbing on the labia), eliminate pain during sexual intercourse and improve sexual satisfaction.
